DDR4 Memory

DDR4 is a JEDEC-specified standard for memory (Random Access Memory = RAM). Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory (DDR-SDRAM) of the fourth generation, or DDR4 RAM, features 288 DIMM contacts and is more energy-efficient compared to DDR3 RAM. At the same time, DDR4 memory runs at higher clock speeds than its predecessors, making it faster. Another advantage of DDR4 standard memory is the maximum capacity per DIMM (Dual Inline Memory Module). DDR4 RAM is incompatible with DDR3, and motherboards require appropriate DDR4 DIMM slots.

The reference voltage of the standard is only 1.2 volts, with DIMMs having particularly high clock rates requiring up to 1.35 volts. Manual overclocking can allow up to 1.4 volts for short periods, but this is only recommended in combination with high-quality motherboards. In terms of clock rates, DDR4 RAM allows up to 4,700 MHz, with latencies generally at CL14 or higher. The rule of thumb is: the higher the clock speed, the higher the latency.

DDR4 Modules for Every Need & Taste

As with DDR3, the DDR4 standard kits and individual modules come in various forms. DDR4 DIMMs not only have various performance characteristics such as clock frequency (MHz, the higher, the faster) or latencies (CL, the lower, the faster), but they also come in different aesthetics, making them perfect for matching system colours. Some RAM models feature heat spreaders with stylish shapes and colours, and even LED lighting, which will delight modding enthusiasts.

RAM kits with RGB LED lighting are particularly trendy. Many models allow the RAM's lighting effects to be synchronized with the motherboard, graphics card, case, and other RGB lighting in the form of strips. In our "Water Cooling" category, you can find heatsinks for RAM DIMMs that help cool the memory particularly efficiently.
