Top Selection of 28-Inch Monitors

Among the many monitor sizes available, a 28-inch monitor stands out as a significant option, close to the largest PC monitors currently offered, which are 30 inches (0.76 m). When considering 28-inch monitors, there are a few key aspects to keep in mind beyond what you would consider for smaller monitors. High-resolution and good contrast ratio become particularly important. While a standard Full-HD resolution might appear slightly pixelated on larger screens, it is perfectly adequate for office and everyday use. For high-resolution media and close viewing distances, higher resolutions like 2560 x 1440 pixels (WQHD format) are advantageous.

Depending on the use case, it might be worth considering the 4K UHD standard for a 28-inch monitor, especially if you plan to watch Blu-rays or play HD games. To support these higher resolutions, you should ensure that your 28-inch monitor includes a DisplayPort or HDMI 2.1 connection and that you have a compatible graphics card.

28-Inch Monitors - It's Not Just About Size, Technology Matters

  • The most crucial distinguishing feature of a monitor is its panel technology. While TN panels were once common, they have largely been replaced by advanced IPS and VA panels that offer better viewing angles and contrast. Emerging technologies like OLED and QD-OLED provide superior colour accuracy and faster response times, ideal for gaming and professional graphics work.
  • Other essential features include resolution (e.g., 1080p/Full HD or 4K/UltraHD), brightness, response time, and refresh rate - ranging from 60 Hz to 120 Hz or even 240 Hz in gaming monitors.
  • Compared to the now outdated and interference-prone VGA connections, digital connections like HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort offer much better image quality and are essential for a 28-inch monitor. HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort can support higher refresh rates and resolutions, making them the best choices for modern monitors. Thunderbolt connections also offer high data transfer rates and can carry audio, video, and network signals.
  • Additional features can include height adjustability, pivot, swivel, and tilt functions, multi-monitor setups (such as AMD Eyefinity), built-in speakers, touchscreen capabilities, and compatibility with NVIDIA's G-SYNC and AMD's FreeSync for smooth, tear-free gaming experiences.
